Twist Of The Tails

What a week for Princeton Hockey: The Tigers’ Zane Kalemba was named ECAC Player of the Year, won the Ken Dryden award for most outstanding goaltender, and then was named one of the 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award (along with David McIntyre from Colgate, the rights to whom the Devils picked up in a trade this year).  Not a bad hat trick at all.   On Friday, Princeton faced Cornell in the ECAC semifinals up in Albany, and after working their way to a 3-1 lead watched it vaporize in the last 90 seconds of the game, only to lose in double overtime.   It was a hard one to follow over the net via WPRB’s webcast, and not only because of intermittent network connectivity in my hotel.

On Sunday, though, the bounces went the way of the Tiger tail. They received a #3 seed in the Midwestern bracket of the NCAA hockey tournament, one of sixteen teams aiming for a trip to Washington’s NCAA Frozen Four. We’ll be following along with the home version of the game again, hoping that this year’s tournament is an improvement over last year’s.
